Review of Beyonce’s “4”

10 Jun

IT SUXXX, duh.  Track after track of CHEESEY r&b pop ballads, one painful sample of dancehall wannabe white people Major Lazer, I couldn’t listen to one track for more than 30 seconds. BUT I was surprised to find a diamond in the rough.

“Party” which features Andre 3000 is an awesome smooth throwback jam.  Produced by Kanye West, it again proves he should stay in the studio and off the mic (though he of course couldn’t resist laying some vocals at the opening and ending of track, claiming Beyonce drips swagu, ew).  Beyonce’s vocal are sooo on point.  I love how she hits the notes at the end of the verses!

“i may be young but i’m REAADY!”

I was surprised there wasn’t another so called “banger” like Run The World, but if there was I would expect myself to hate it anyway.  “Party” on the other hand has surprisingly been saving my life the past couple of days, so much so I had to dust off the blog and post about it.  Perfect for Friday, sliding your way into the weekend.  DL DL DL DL DL!

Soundcloud Spotlight ~2 Deep~

6 Apr

2 Deep are a beat destroying DJ duo based in LA.  Next time I head down to SoCal checking out whatever party these cats are spinning at is top priority.  They’re probably my favorite peoples I’m following on the soundcloud.  Check out their amazing fucking remixes, especially their remix of “Bottoms Up”, taking it from so-so hip-pop to a baile funk/house club killer. I’ve included that one in several of my sets recently, and I will probably continue to do so.

Blaqstarr break it down?

6 Apr

Blaqstarr is all cleaned up now!  He’s all going from street to chic, which I’m whatever about, but his body is fucking banging…

Yet the image is a definite trade off for musical integrity.  Listening through his new EP Divine it sounds like he’s gone from Baltimore club killer to hipster experimentalist.

Right now he’s slowly releasing tracks from an upcoming mixtape.  So far I can’t say that I’m excited about it, but here’s a few tracks from his soundcloud that are listenable at least.

I hope there’s some secret fire being saved for the mixtape, which will drop April 12th.

And the busy bee continues to buzz!

This week BootyKlap presents ~Monsoon Season & PARTY HOLE!!!!!~

31 Mar

This has by far been the busiest spring break I’ve ever experienced.  That’s a great thing however, because I’ve been working on promoting two sure to be fabulous parties.  I have a weekly night of world music at El Rio, a well known bar here in San Francisco.  The bar supports a lot of queer endeavors and I’m blessed to be a part of it, thanx to my fabulous friend Kitn who works there.

Tomorrow San Francisco wille experience the rebirth of PARTY HOLE!!!!  I never wrote about it way back because I was so crushed, but the last time PARTY HOLE was schedule to go down it got shut down instead.  Practically the whole city was about to show up for it and I just now actually recovering from that grief.  We got a sweet new venue at Sub-Mission but since it’s a legit bar we can’t go after hours, boo.  Regardless it’s going to be a raunchy queer ass time.  Peep the descriptions below while I continue to run around like a chicken with its head cut off.

Schlachthofbronx ~Nasty Bass EP~

24 Mar

Honestly Schlachthofbronx’s new EP Nasty Bass, dropped on Maddecent, has left me feeling pretty cold if not simply indifferent about the Munich duo. I was anticipating this release for maybe a month in advance. I coped a few tracks from Beatport, which charges a much heftier fee than itunes (usually 2.49 a track) and damn was I annoyed for wasting 5 dollars on those two songs. That could’ve been the most scrumptious fucking burrito I never ate. The cumbia “microbass” track Chambacu is a decent, but the remaining tracks feel too short to just unfinished. I guess “experimental” could be an appropriate adjective to use here, but more times than not “experimental” is just a nice way of saying booooring.
